IRCTC’s new rules for advance booking will come into effect from today i.e. November 1, 2024. If you are also using the IRCTC app or website for railway bookings, then you should know about this new rule of railways. Indian Railways has now reduced the limit by changing the advance booking rules. The official online booking platform of Indian Railways has now shortened the booking period for advance tickets from 120 days to 60 days.
The rules change starting today
Indian Railways announced the news last month. In addition to the IRCTC platform, this new rule also applies to any third-party booking platform or application, such as Paytm, Ixigo, Make My Trip. Additionally, this rule also applies to offline or over-the-counter tickets. Indian Railways has made this change in advance booking rules in view of the increasing waiting list for trains. Especially with the holidays still four months away, many train tickets are already fully booked, causing many railway passengers to face problems.
Through the IRCTC platform, users can now book tickets 60 days in advance instead of 120 days. General admission tickets can be reserved at any time via the app and website. Meanwhile, Tatkal tickets can be booked 24 hours before the train is scheduled to depart. Tatkal ticket window opens at 10 am for AC and 11 am for non-AC. In this case, if you also want to book your train tickets in advance, then now you can book your train tickets only 60 days in advance.
IRCTC platform upgrade
IRCTC has significantly upgraded its platform over the past few years. Now, users don’t have to face any problem while booking tickets online. The Railways has also changed the rules for booking tickets through IRCTC in the past few years. If you log into an application or website before 8am, you will log out at 8am sharp. To book a train ticket, you must log in again.
Meanwhile, for Tatkal tickets, you have to log in at 10 am and 11 am sharp. Apart from this, only one PNR number can be generated after logging in. For the second ticket i.e. PNR, you have to log in to the IRCTC app or website again. Indian Railways has taken this decision to stop black marketing of tickets.
