Northern India is experiencing severe cold and rainfall warnings have been issued. Rains are expected in many states including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab in the coming days. The cold will also intensify with the rainfall. The meteorological department said that the cold wave may last for 5 to 7 days in the future.
Western disturbance causes weather changes
A new western turmoil is about to hit the western Himalayas and plains. Therefore, the weather will change. According to the weather department, Delhi-NCR is likely to remain partly cloudy on Monday. Light rain or drizzle is possible in many areas. There’s a chance of fog on Tuesday. The meteorological department issued a yellow warning on Tuesday.
Cold wave will continue, only rain
The Meteorological Department said that rainfall is likely to occur in many parts of Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana on December 26 (Thursday) and December 27 (Friday). There will be another severe freeze due to the rain. Severe cold wave will occur in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.
The temperature will drop further
Fog prevailed in many parts of Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Punjab on Sunday morning. On Sunday, the average minimum temperature in Delhi is likely to be 7 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is likely to be 22 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature is likely to drop along with light rain in the Delhi National Capital Territory on Monday. Cold winds will also blow.
It’s raining in these parts of the country
The Meteorological Department informed that there will be heavy rain in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. Apart from this, it is raining in North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Rayalaseema. Rainfall warnings have been issued in different parts of Odisha, West Bengal Ganga, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya.
Rain warning also issued during snowfall in Himachal Pradesh
The local meteorological department on Saturday predicted snowfall and rain in parts of Himachal Pradesh on December 23, 24 and 27. The meteorological department has issued an orange alert in some places of Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Mandi till December 24. As of December 25, yellow warnings for cold wave and frost have been issued in parts of Chamba, Kangra and Kullu.
Kashmir snow covered mountains
A day before ‘Chillai Kalan’, a severe cold period in Kashmir, the temperature in the valley dropped to a few degrees below zero. Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season so far. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -6.2 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than the previous night’s -6 degrees Celsius. Due to the severe cold, water pipes and many areas of the Dal Lake were frozen.
