The dispute between India and Pakistan over the Champions Trophy does not seem to be stopping. There were recent reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board and BCCI had agreed on a “hybrid model” but now PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has denied this. Naqvi said he has not received any official communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that his team will not travel to Pakistan to compete for the Champions Trophy.
On Friday morning, BCCI sources said that India had officially informed the PCB that they would not travel to Pakistan, but Naqvi denied this at a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium in the evening. Naqvi said no one has discussed the “hybrid model” with him so far and he is not ready to talk about it. But he has shown a good attitude over the past few years, and no one should expect him to do that all the time.
PCB is waiting for Indian team
He said if such a proposal was submitted in writing to the PCB, he would submit it to the government. Naqvi said that whenever there is any proposal in writing, he will inform the government and whatever decision they take will have to be followed. Earlier, the PCB had proposed to the BCCI that India could base it in Delhi or Chandigarh and fly to Lahore on the day of the match and return the next day, but it was rejected. Let us tell you that the Indian team has not toured Pakistan since 2008.
It is worth noting that the 2025 Champions League will be held in Pakistan next year. Years later, a big tournament will be held in Pakistan. In this scenario, PCB is busy making its cricket stadium a world-class one. However, there are still doubts about the Indian team heading to Pakistan. It now remains to be seen what decision will be made in the coming days.
