India recently suffered a heavy defeat against New Zealand in the Test series. India suffered a sweep at home for the first time in 24 years. Due to this defeat, the Indian team suffered heavy losses and also lost their second position in the World Test standings. Following this defeat, in-depth discussions are ongoing between the Indian team and the BCCI.
In fact, the BCCI held a meeting to review in detail the circumstances of India’s 0-3 defeat against New Zealand. Here, the selection of the Mumbai Test ‘Rank Turner’, Jasprit Bumrah’s rest and Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style are discussed. Captain Rohit Sharma, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gambhir and BCCI secretary Jay Shah and chairman Roger Binny were also present in the meeting. Gambhir participated in the online meeting.
BCCI brainstorms on failure
A senior BCCI source related to the matter told PTI on condition of confidentiality that a marathon meeting lasting six hours was arranged after the failure. The Indian team is about to tour Australia and the BCCI wants to ensure that the team gets back on track. He also wanted to know what the “think tank” (Gambhir-Rohit-Agarkar) thought about it.
A number of decisions have been taken regarding the issues now raised during the Test series against New Zealand. BCCI officials are believed to be unhappy with the fact that Jasprit Bumrah was rested in the third Test despite losing two games in a row. Apart from this, the selection of ‘Rank Turner’ despite India’s poor performance on these pitches was also something we discussed.
