BBA students plotted to kidnap themselves for money, UP police reveals

A shocking kidnapping plot has taken place in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. In this case, police arrested a student who plotted to kidnap and extort money from his family. The accused was identified as Sanjeev Tyagi, 22, a resident of Katra town in the district. Police uncovered the plot and arrested two of his associates.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh S said BBA student Sanjeev Tyagi left home last Monday saying he was going to Bareilly to collect his mark sheet. He didn’t get home until evening. But that night, his mother received a WhatsApp call informing her that her son had been kidnapped. The authorities demanded a ransom of 200,000 rupees for his release. The caller also threatened to kill someone if the money was not paid.

The SP said that after receiving information about the kidnapping, Sanjeev Tyagi’s family immediately informed the local police station. Subsequently, the police opened a case and launched an investigation. To this end, the police set up a special team. Thereafter, Sanjeev’s family took the ransom money to a place near the Bahagul river as instructed by the kidnappers. The police force was also present.

When Sanjeev’s family reached the place, two men came to take the money. The police caught him as soon as they saw them. They were identified as Mangesh Kumar and Gurusan Singh. The pair recounted the entire plot during interrogation. He reveals that he is Sanjeev’s friend. He himself orchestrated his kidnapping. He had intended to use the ransom to meet his personal needs.

His closest friend Amit also fully supports his conspiracy. Together, the pair made the drama so clear that the police had to take immediate action. Amit tied Nazim’s hands and feet.

Thereafter, he made a video and sent it to his family and demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh. Later, the family reported the incident to the police. The police formed three teams and with the help of the surveillance team, it took just eight hours to nab Nazim and his friend Amit. When the two men were interrogated, the whole thing came out. Nazim narrated the story of the kidnapping plot.
