Meanwhile, Mohammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, called Prime Minister Modi and assured the safety of Hindus.

Posting on Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Spoke to Professor Muhammad Yunus on telephone. Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh. Exchanged views on the current situation. India for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh.” He reiterated his support to Bangladesh and assured the safety, security and protection of Hindus and all minorities in Bangladesh.”

PMO also issued a statement

A statement was also issued by the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the phone conversation between the two leaders. The PMO said, “The Prime Minister spoke over telephone to the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s support to the Hindus and all other minority communities by the Interim Government. Stressed the need to ensure security and protection of Hindus and all minorities in Bangladesh.

The statement further said, “During the call, the Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh. He reiterated India’s commitment to support the people of Bangladesh through various development initiatives. The Prime Minister also underlined the importance of ensuring the safety and security of Hindus and all other minority communities in Bangladesh. The two leaders also discussed ways to advance bilateral relations in line with their respective national priorities.

PM Modi had mentioned in his Independence Day speech

Let us tell you that during his speech from the Red Fort on Independence Day, PM Modi also mentioned the incidents in Bangladesh and described the situation as worrying. He said that as a neighboring country, we are concerned about whatever has happened in Bangladesh. I can understand this. I hope the situation there will become normal soon. The concern of 140 crore countrymen is that the safety of Hindus and minorities there should be ensured. India always wants our neighboring countries to follow the path of happiness and peace. PM Modi has already expressed concern over the condition of Hindus.

An interim government was formed after several days of unrest and political turmoil in Bangladesh. Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus took oath as the head of the interim government in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated Muhammad Yunus after the swearing-in and demanded to ensure the safety of all citizens including Hindus in Bangladesh.
