Supreme Court.
A PIL has been filed to stop and investigate Bangladeshi infiltration into Santhal district of Jharkhand. The Supreme People’s Court has issued a notice to the central government in this regard. The Supreme Court will hold the next hearing on the case on December 3. The District Collector (DC) denied infiltration of Bangladeshis into six districts of Santhal. The petitioner had challenged the affidavit filed by the District Council in the High Court.
The Jharkhand government has challenged the High Court’s directive, which directed the central and state governments to set up fact-finding committees and appoint officials to probe the infiltration incident. In September this year, the High Court ordered the establishment of a fact-finding committee.
State government to set up joint committee
In this regard, the petitioner said the state government had earlier agreed to constitute a committee. But then she backed down. The state government is then ready to set up a joint committee to identify infiltrators. After hearing the arguments, the court said that before October 1, the center and the state should hold a meeting to discuss the formation of the committee.
Full information about the infiltration is provided in the affidavit.
The court in its order also mentioned that the Santhal district collector said there was no infiltration. There is talk of infiltration from the state side. The state says infiltration is taking place. But DC-SP denied this. The central government said complete information about the infiltration has been provided in the affidavit. The government insists on setting up a fact-finding commission to identify infiltrators in the state.
