Bangladesh: No lawyer found, bail hearing for Chimoy Krishna Das to be held in a month

Dhaka: Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das failed to get any relief from a Bangladeshi court on Tuesday as the hearing on his bail request was postponed for a month and no lawyer was available to represent him. This information was obtained from media reports. “BDnews24.com” quoted Chittagong City Police ADC (Prosecutor) Mofizur Rahman as saying that after a preliminary hearing on the bail request on Tuesday, the judge set the next hearing on January 2. It will now be only a month to know whether Das will be granted bail in the treason case against him.

Qinmei appeared in court without a lawyer

According to reports, Chittagong Metropolitan Court Judge Mohammad Saiful Islam will hear Chinmay Krishna Das’ bail request on Tuesday, but no lawyer representing Chinmay will appear in court. Tight security arrangements were made at the Chittagong court complex in view of the hearing of the bail plea and a large number of security personnel from various forces were deployed. Das was not brought to court for the hearing.

Arrested at Dhaka Airport

Das, spokesman for Bangladeshi company Sanatani Jagran Jot, was arrested on November 25 at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on charges of sedition. On November 26, a Chittagong court denied bail and sent him to jail, followed by protests by his supporters. A lawyer has been killed in violence that broke out in Bangladesh’s southeastern port city of Chittagong following his arrest. Immediately after Das was denied bail, his lawyers filed a modification petition seeking a retrial, but no hearing was held that day.
