A Bangladesh court on Saturday ordered police to submit an investigation report into the murder of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 23 others by November 28. This information has been given in local media reports.
The murder was registered over the death of an 18-year-old college student in Mirpur, Dhaka, after Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government cracked down on a student-led movement.
Investigation reports must be submitted by November 28
On August 5, 77-year-old Sheikh Hasina left the country for India after resigning as prime minister in protest against the government’s controversial job quota system. Hundreds of people died in the months-long protests.
Dhaka Deputy Chief Justice Mohammad Ziadur Rahman ordered an investigation report to be submitted by November 28 after the case is brought to court, The Daily Star reported.
These names are included in the list of defendants
The case was filed on August 15 by the victim’s brother, who claimed that the defendants directly participated in or abetted the violence that resulted in the death of his brother and injuries to other students.
In addition to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the defendants in this case also include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Awami League Secretary-General Obaidul Quader, and former Law Minister Anisul Haq and former Inspector General of Police Chaudhry Abdullah Mamoun.
Cases against Sheikh Hasina total 225
According to reports, Sheikh Hasina is currently facing 225 cases, including 194 murders, 16 crimes against humanity and genocide, 3 kidnapping cases, 11 attempted murder cases and 1 attack on Bangladeshi nationalism Party parade case.
