Dhaka:
A court in Bangladesh on Sunday issued arrest warrants against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiqu, and 50 others and 50 others in connection with alleged illegal acquisition by misusing political power.
The Dhaka Tribune newspaper said that Zakir Hussain, Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan, passed the order after considering three separate charge sheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Hussain on April 27 decided to review the report on the execution of arrest orders, the newspaper quoted ACC Assistant Director (Prosecution) Aminul Islam.
Citing court sources, Bengali newspaper Prothom Aloe said that the ACC recently presented chargesheet in the court against 53 people in three separate cases in allegations of corruption in plot allocation.
Paper said that all 53 accused, including Sheikh Hasina, had gone missing, the court issued arrest warrants against her.
On 10 April, the same court issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Saiima Wazed Putul, and 17 others in a separate corruption case related to Rajuk plot allocation.
Putul is serving as the South East Asian Regional Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) located in New Delhi since 1 November 2023.
On 13 January, the ACC filed a case against Rehana for obtaining a 10-tale plot in the Purbachal New Town Project through alleged the authority’s misuse. The case was named 15 accused, including Sheikh Hasina and Bhani’s daughter British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiqu. Rehana did not hold any official place in the previous regime.
After investigation, the ACC on March 10 presented a charge sheet against 17 persons, adding two more names.
In another case, the ACC filed an allegation against Azmina Siddiq for similar irregularities, which was receiving a 10-ted conspiracy in Purbachal. In the case, 16 accused were initially listed, including Tulip Siddiq and Sheikh Hasina. The final charge sheet was presented on 10 March, named 18 people.
The ACC filed a third case on the same day, who used to accuse Rehana’s son Redwan Mujib Siddiq of obtaining a conspiracy using a political impact. Tulip Siddiqu and Sheikh Hasina were out of 16 nominated in the initial complaint. The final charge sheet also included 18 accused.
Sheikh Hasina is also accused of several allegations such as crimes against mass murders and crimes against humanity disappeared, while these cases were being filed with Bangladesh’s International Crime Tribunal.
Sheikh Hasina’s 16 -year -old Awami League regime was topped in a violent mass rebellion led by a student on August 5 last year. Since then, 77 -year -old Sheikh Hasina has been living in India.
