Bajrang Punia Takes NADA to Court: India’s star wrestler and Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia has dragged the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to court against his ban. He has taken this decision regarding the World Wrestling Championship to be held in October.

Actually, NADA has banned Bajrang. While he wants to participate in the World Wrestling Championship. In such a situation, this ban imposed on Bajrang prevents him from participating in this championship. Regarding this, Bajrang has filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court against the decision of NADA.

He was banned for not giving urine sample

Actually, this whole matter is from March this year. According to NADA, Bajrang had refused to give urine sample during the trials in Sonipat on March 10. Due to this, this action was taken against him and a ban was imposed.

The notice sent to Bajrang said, ‘The DCO had asked you to give a urine sample for the dope test. Despite several requests made by the DCO, you refused to give your urine sample on the ground that you will not provide the sample until NADA responds to your email regarding the issue of expired kits.’

Bajrang said this in his petition

He had said, ‘About two months ago, the athlete’s sample was to be collected for the dope test. After refusing to give the sample, the DCO of NADA had informed you in detail about its consequences. You have been accused of violating Article 2.3 of the National Anti-Doping Rules, 2021. Now you have been temporarily suspended.’

Now Bajrang has filed a petition in the High Court saying that the doping control officers were either bringing the same kit for the test or were bringing expired kits in violation of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) protocol.

Non-authorized officers were taking samples

The petition said- Apart from this, the officials wanted to take the sample in the middle of the match so that I get busy in it. In this way, I could have lost my match. In his complaint, he said that Bajrang’s sample was being taken by an unauthorized doping control officer, whose name was not even in the mission order of NADA.

He said that after the ban, Bajrang had filed his clarification on July 11, 2024, to which NADA has not yet responded nor given any opportunity for a hearing. Whereas Bajrang has to participate in the World Wrestling Championship in October 2024.
