Baba Siddiqui came out of the office of his MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar area, where gunmen opened fire on him. Before committing the crime, he was said to have done “drying”.

During the interrogation of the accused, the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police, which is investigating the case, found that the absconding gunman suspected Shivkumar Gautam had learned to use a gun during a celebratory shooting at a wedding in Uttar Pradesh.

Gautam deployed as main shooter

During the interrogation of arrested accused Gurmail Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap, it was also revealed that Gautam was retained as the “primary shooter” as he knew how to handle the firearm. The officer said he learned how to load and unload the weapon by watching YouTube videos for about four weeks because he couldn’t find an open space to train.

Defendant contacted via Snapchat

One of the alleged conspirators, Shubham Lonkar, was not under police surveillance until September 24 and was charged in June with a shooting outside the home of actor Salman Khan in April. He was questioned in connection with the incident. He is a member of the Bishnoi gang. Shubham Lonkar was arrested in January in an Arms Act case registered at Akot police station in Maharashtra’s Akola district but was later granted bail.

A police officer said police recovered more than a dozen guns in the case. He told that Shubham was in touch with Anmol, brother of Lawrence Bishnoi. The officer said he had since appeared on police surveillance, but had not been found on September 24. He said that during investigation it was also discovered that the accused used to communicate with each other using social media applications such as Snapchat and Instagram.

An official said Shubham Lonkar was aware of the mobile app. The police officer said he has asked all members involved in the conspiracy (in the Siddiqui murder case) to communicate through Instagram and chat through Snapchat to avoid surveillance. He said Snapchat has a feature that automatically deletes most messages after they have been viewed or expired.
