Baba Siddiqui case exposed, mastermind promised to provide passport to gunman

The mastermind behind the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddiqui had promised to arrange passports for the gunmen to leave the country. A police officer provided the information Thursday. He said the gunman was asked to provide his exit passport. So that the gunman can escape abroad after committing the crime. Police officials said the mastermind of the murder also provided Rs 50,000 to Gunil Singh, the alleged shooter.

On October 12, former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui was shot dead outside the office of his MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui in Bandra district. Gunir and another gunman, Dharamraj Kashyap, were arrested shortly after the attack. One of his associates, Shivkumar Gautam, managed to escape. The murder case against Gunil Singh is already underway.

Gurnail is part of the Archer’s second module.

A murder case was also registered against Gurnail Singh, a resident of Khaital in Haryana, in 2019, the police officer said. Investigations revealed that he feared being found guilty in that case and wanted to flee the country. He said the conspirators had promised to help him escape India and obtain a passport based on fake documents.

He said Shivkumar, Dharamraj and Gurnail were part of the second group of gunmen and were in touch with co-conspirator Shubham Lonkar and mastermind Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar. Shivkumar and Dharmaraj were allegedly given Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh to commit the murder.

Responsibility for the murder occurred earlier on the Thane base module.

According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, the responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddiqui was initially placed with the Thane-based module. Nitin Sapre and Ram Kanojia were involved in the Thane-based module, the official said. He conducted reconnaissance of Baba Siddiqui’s house and offices for several days. Rupesh Mohol, Karan Salvi and Shivam Kohar were also with him during this period.

Mohol, Salvi and Kohar were arrested from Pune on Thursday. He told Sapre and Kanoja to demand Rs 5 million to carry out the murder, but the conspirators thought the amount was too high. Thereafter, troops led by Sapre retreated and a new group of gunmen, including Gunil Singh, were included among the conspirators, the official said.

Police have arrested 14 people so far

Earlier, Kanoja had visited Udaipur with Bhagwat Singh Om Singh on July 7 to obtain pistols. These weapons were used in crimes. Police arrested Bhagwat Singh Om Singh. The plot to kill Baba Siddiqui was hatched in late June. The official said the weapons were brought from northern India.

Mumbai police suspected the attackers were from the country’s North Indian region. Zeeshan Akhtar, a resident of Jalandhar, is wanted and had stayed at Amit Hisamsingh Kumar’s residence in Haryana in July. The official said Amit Kumar, who has now been arrested, was the key link between Akhtar and Gunair Singh. So far, the police have arrested 14 people involved in the case.
