Once again a Hindu temple has been targeted in Canada. Here the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple located in the city of Edmonton was vandalized and the wall was painted over. Vishwa Hindu Parishad based in Canada criticized this and appealed to the government to take action against the growing extremist ideology in the country.
“Vishva Hindu Parishad strongly condemns the anti-Hindu painting and vandalism at the BAPS temple in Edmonton, Canada,” the Canada-based VHP said in an ex-post. The organization also said, “We appeal to the government in Canada to take decisive action against the growing extremist ideology spreading hatred against our peaceful Hindu community in the country.”

Temples have been attacked in Canada before
This is not the first incident of vandalism and indecent painting of a Hindu temple in Canada. Khalistan supporters often target Hindu temples here. After the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Khalistan supporters are furious and they often carry out anti-India activities in Canada. In August 2023, a Hindu temple was targeted in British Columbia and a poster of Khalistani referendum was put up.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was murdered in Surrey, Canada in June 2023. He was the president of Gurunanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib. Two unknown people attacked and killed him. On June 18, he was in the parking lot of the Gurudwara and was leaving his car when the attackers shot him. He was the chief of the separatist organization Khalistani Tiger Force and was involved in anti-India activities.

Attacks on temples in America too
After the central government’s action against Khalistan supporters in India, Khalistan supporters in many countries including America and Canada attacked the Indian High Commission and Embassy. In January this year, a Hindu temple in California was attacked. Swaminarayan temple was targeted here just a week before this. Even temples located in New York City were attacked.
