Dhaka: Atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh continue. Another Hindu priest was also arrested during a protest against the arrest of ISKCON temple priest and Hindu leader Swami Chinmoy Krishnadas. Shyamdas Prabhu, another celibate of the ISKCON temple in Bangladesh, has been arrested by the Chittagong police, Radharaman Das, spokesman for the ISKCON temple in West Bengal, said on Twitter. In another tweet, he shared a picture of Shyamdas Prabhu and wrote, Do you think he is a terrorist?

Let us tell you that earlier, former member of International Society for Krishna Consciousness Bangladesh (ISKCON) Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on Monday on charges of treason, a few days later Spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna was arrested. Another Hindu priest was arrested in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The arrested priest was identified as Shyam Das Prabhu, who had reportedly visited Chinmoy Krishna Das in jail.

Shyam Das Prabhu was arrested without any warrant.

Sources said Shyam Das Prabhu was arrested without any official arrest warrant. This practice allows authorities to detain someone and then release them. Radharaman Das, vice-president and spokesperson of ISKCON Kolkata, also posted on X about the monk’s arrest. Arrests and violence against Hindu saints continue in Bangladesh. Members of the Hindu community launched protests across Bangladesh including the capital Dhaka and Chittagong following the arrest of former ISKCON member and Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das on treason charges.

A Chittagong court on Tuesday denied bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, leading to clashes between police and protesters demanding his release. Assistant Prosecutor Seif al-Islam was killed in the clashes. Bangladeshi police have arrested nine people so far in connection with the murder of a lawyer, police said on Saturday. He was arrested after cases were registered against 46 people, mostly sanitation workers from the Hindu minority community.

Muslims destroy Hindu temples

A Muslim mob vandalized three Hindu temples after Hindus performed Friday prayers in Chittagong. There have been protests and violence in the area since a former ISKCON member was booked on sedition charges. According to news portal BDNews24.com, the attack took place at around 2:30 pm on Harish Chandra Munsef Lane in the port city, with Shantaneshwari Matri Temple, nearby Shoni Temple and Shantaneshwari Kalibari Temple among the targets. “Hundreds of people chanted slogans and threw bricks and stones at the temple, damaging the gates of Shoni Temple and two other temples.” Kotwali police chief Abdul Karim confirmed the attack incident and said the attackers were trying to destroy the temple.

Violence against minorities in Bangladesh

Chinmoy Krishna Das’ arrest comes amid tensions over minority rights in Bangladesh, which has seen widespread violence since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina political violence. The new military-backed interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has been criticized for failing to stem a surge in violence against minorities since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
