Assembly election process begins in Jammu and Kashmir from today, notification issued for 24 seats

The process of assembly elections has started in Jammu and Kashmir from today (20th August). Notification for the first phase of voting will be issued today. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed as 27th August. After a long wait of 10 years, assembly elections are being held here. Voting for the first phase is to be held on September 18. In which voting will be held in 24 assembly constituencies.

Voting on 16 seats of Kashmir Valley

Voting is to be held on 24 seats in the first phase of voting to be held on September 18. Of these, 16 seats are from Kashmir Valley, while 8 seats are from Jammu region. Parties can announce their candidates in a day or two.

Elections are being held after removal of 370

Let us tell you that after becoming a Union Territory in the year 2019 and the removal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir is ready for its first assembly elections in a decade. The results of the three-phase assembly elections for 90 seats will be released on October 4. This will be the first time since 2014 that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will vote in the assembly elections.

After redefinition of constituencies in 2022, the number of assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir has increased to 90. This includes 47 seats in Kashmir Valley and 43 in Jammu.

Assembly elections after 10 years

This will be the first assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir after 2014. In 2014, votes were cast for 87 assembly seats in the state. Then the People’s Democratic Party emerged as the largest party by winning 28 seats. At the same time, BJP had won 25 seats. National Conference had won 15 seats and Congress 12 seats. In the election results, no party could reach the magic figure of 44 seats required for majority. After the announcement of election results, PDP and BJP, the first and second placed parties, formed an alliance and formed the government under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

This was the result of Lok Sabha elections

During the Lok Sabha elections, the people of Jammu and Kashmir showed tremendous enthusiasm for voting and recorded record voting. During the general elections in Jammu and Kashmir, 58.46 percent voting took place, which is the highest record of voting in the last 35 years. There are five Lok Sabha seats in the Union Territory. National Conference and Bharatiya Janata Party had won two seats each, while independent Engineer Rashid had won one seat.
