Assam: Chief Minister Himanta expands cabinet, four new ministers sworn in

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expanded the cabinet size on December 7. There are four ministers in his cabinet, all sworn in and participating in the expansion. Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya administered oath to the four new ministers. These include Prashant Phukan, Kaushik Rai, Krishnandu Paul and Rupesh Goala. The four new ministers who have joined the cabinet are MLAs from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other members of the cabinet were also present at the oath-taking ceremony. Among them, Phukan has been elected as the MLA of Dibrugarh Province four times, Paul has been elected as the MLA of Patharkandi Province twice, and Rai and Goala have been elected as MLAs of Lakhipur and Doom Dooma Provinces for the first time. Phukan and Gola represent the Dibrugarh and Tinsukia tea districts of Upper Assam. And Paul and Rai come from two areas of Barak Valley: Shribhoomi and Cachar. With the addition of these four members, the total number of members of Himanta Biswa Sarma Council of Ministers has increased to 19.

Another position will be filled at a later date

Talking to the media, the Assam Chief Minister said that there is still one member vacant. They will also fill this gap in the future. To this end, one more member will be elected and sworn in.

He said many activities and works related to the development of the state are being carried out on a large scale. In this case, we need the help of more ministers to oversee all the work. In view of this, we have added four more ministers to the cabinet, he said.
