In Assam’s Kamrup district, a local leader was stabbed to death over a minor incident. The leader of the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) was killed with a knife after an altercation over a minor matter, police said. According to police, the incident took place at a youth festival near Chhaygaon on Saturday night.
The incident took place last night during the youth festival of Brahmaputra Valley College in Goraimari near Chhaygaon, an official said. He said: “While the show was going on, two people got into an argument over some issue. It then escalated into a fight. One of them injured the other with a knife.
Local people handed the attacker over to the police
The police officer said that one of them suddenly stabbed another several people with a knife, causing him serious injuries. In desperation, with the help of the local police, the injured were immediately sent to Goraimari Public Health Center. From there he was referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. Once there, doctors pronounced him dead.

The deceased has been identified as local AAMSU leader Lohit Hussain, police officials said. Meanwhile, locals chased the attacker and handed him over to the police. Police said locals attacked the accused’s house and set it on fire. Meanwhile, seeing the angry people, senior officials visited the area. However, the situation has since been brought under control but remains tense. The police are busy investigating the matter.
