The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has arrested Deepak Gupta, a relative of Ashneer Grover, former managing director and co-founder of BharatPe, for allegedly misappropriating funds from the fintech company. Gupta is currently being held at the EOW police station and will be questioned by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at the Saket court, ANI reported.

Authorities are expected to request his detention to further investigate the case.

The arrest marks a major development in the ongoing legal dispute between BharatPe and Ashneer Grover, a conflict that began after Grover was fired from the company in 2022 amid allegations of financial misconduct and misuse of company resources.

In a related development, the Delhi High Court recently granted permission for Ashnil Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain Grover to travel abroad. The couple had challenged a “lookout circular” issued in India that restricted their movements. The court allowed them to travel to the UK from September 28 to October 7 and to Doha from October 17 to 20, where Grover was scheduled to deliver a speech.

The EOW is currently investigating an alleged misappropriation 810 crore, further adding to the complexity of the legal challenge faced by Grover and his associates.
