The holiday is approaching, and the market inflation effect is obvious. Especially food prices are rising. Onion and tomato prices have started rising again. However, a major reason behind this is believed to be the sudden increase in exports of onions and basmati rice due to the removal of minimum export prices by the government.

The government said it was keeping a close eye on prices and would not allow food prices to rise during the holidays. It is believed that the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra could be a major reason why the government has lifted the European Parliament’s restrictions on onion exports, which have been priced at $550 per ton. Only after that did farmers and agents start exporting onions.

Similarly, MEP was implemented for basmati rice in August last year and was reduced in October. Union Food Distribution and Consumer Minister Nidhi Khare said there will be some impact on prices due to relaxation in exports, but the government has sufficient buffer stock and hence onions are available in the retail market. Direct to the public at an affordable price.

Cooperative organizations in Delhi and Mumbai are selling onions directly to the public at Rs 35 per kg on behalf of the government and are currently preparing to ship to all cities in the country. Union food distribution secretary Nidhi Kharik said the government is constantly monitoring prices. Recently, the price of edible oil has also increased due to the increase in import tariffs. But the government said the overall increase was about 3%, while domestic market oil prices fell.

According to the Ministry of Food, the arrival of tomatoes is also good, so prices may fall in the coming period. If this does not happen, then the government will supply tomatoes directly to the public through cooperative organizations at cheaper prices so that the price of vegetables does not appear to be bitter during the festival. According to the government, pulse crops are also doing well, so pulse prices are not expected to rise again. The Food Ministry is working hard to ensure that the public does not feel the impact of inflation during the festive season.
