The top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party had made Bhajan Lal Sharma the Chief Minister of the state after the Rajasthan elections last year, sidelining many veterans including former CM Vasundhara Raje. After this, speculations were being made that this decision of the high command would be accepted by Raje so easily. Now, after about a year, Vasundhara Raje Scindia has made such a comment, which has again fueled the rumors that all is not well within the BJP leadership in Rajasthan. BJP veteran leader and Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur reached Jaipur on Tuesday on a visit to his home state Rajasthan.

In his honour, the BJP unit of Rajasthan had organised a grand felicitation ceremony. On this occasion, many senior BJP leaders including Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Rajendra Rathore were present. In her address during the felicitation ceremony, Vasundhara Raje Scindia said, ‘No matter how many heights Om Mathur has reached, his feet always remain on the ground. That is why he has numerous admirers. Otherwise, many people consider themselves goldsmiths as soon as they get a brass clove.’

As soon as Raje made this comment, people started guessing her target. Some people said that Vasundhara’s statement was a dig at Bhajanlal Sharma, as she has been angry with him since he became the CM. While some believed that the former Chief Minister’s target was the current BJP state president Madan Rathod. Madan Rathod had recently made a strange comment about Raje while praising her. Speaking about Raje’s absence in the party function, Rathod had said, “When she came to Delhi, I was seeing it myself… she was looking very strange and weak.”

Although all this is just speculation, Vasundhara Raje is trying to send a message to the party leadership that she still has her existence and credibility in the state politics. Raje said during the program, ‘Mathur, who is close to the PM, is hot on the outside and soft from the inside. He made the impossible possible by making the lotus bloom in Chhattisgarh. Whatever the opposition may say, the governor is not a rubber stamp. The horse will run as per the rider. Om Mathur is a skilled rider, who knows how to pull the reins and whip well.’
