Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravindra Raina
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Wednesday passed a proposal to restore Article 370. In response, Ravindra Raina, president of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP, strongly opposed the proposal and said, “The BJP will never accept this agenda of the National Congress and Congress, Article 370 It will never be reinstated in Jammu and Kashmir.” “. Raina further said that Article 370 is now history and was abrogated on August 5, 2019. He described it as the “mother of separatism and terrorism” and claimed that the article encouraged violence in Jammu and Kashmir killings, bomb blasts and shooting of innocent people.
Apart from this, Raina also alleged that the new government in Jammu and Kashmir is trying to revive terrorism and separatism in collaboration with the Congress. He claimed that Article 370 violated the rights of women and the human rights of Gurjar, Bakarwal, Pahari, OBC, Dalit community and Gorkha community.
Statement by Mehbooba Mufti
Meanwhile, former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti also reacted to the proposal. He said the language of the resolution was unclear and would have been clearer if the People’s Democratic Party was in power. Pointing out that it was just a matter of “lender or debit”, Mufti said the People’s Democratic Party had always kept its promises to the public while the National Conference (NC) had come under pressure to come up with the proposal. He also said that the tone of this proposal does not seem to be the tone of a majority party and needs to be improved in the future.
What’s in the proposal?
The resolution tabled by the Jammu and Kashmir government in Parliament stated that Parliament reaffirmed the importance of special status and constitutional guarantees that protect the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal to unilaterally abrogate Article 370 has raised deep concerns. To this end, the Government of India calls for the commencement of negotiations with the elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir to develop appropriate constitutional mechanisms for the restoration of special status and constitutional guarantees. At the same time, it should also be ensured that the process respects national unity and the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
