Army JCO injured in encounter near LoC in Rajouri

Rajouri, Sept 14: An Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was injured and hospitalised following an encounter between the Army and infiltrating terrorists near the Line of Actual Control (LoC) in Rajouri sector of Pir Panjal district, the Indian Army said.

The clash took place at Gouchar Gap on the Line of Actual Control in Nowshera area of ​​Rajouri district.

Officials said that on Saturday afternoon, Army soldiers were conducting an area control exercise near the Anti-Infiltration Barrier System (AIOS) when they spotted suspicious movement of terrorists who were moving towards the LoC fence in an attempt to infiltrate across the LoC.

“The terrorists were intercepted and stopped. They opened fire on the troops. The troops retaliated and eventually engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with the terrorists,” officials said.

A junior Army officer sustained gunshot injuries in the exchange of fire, they said.

He was immediately rushed to the nearest medical facility and then referred to the Rajouri Army Hospital, officials said.

The area has been cordoned off and tight security is maintained along the LoC and at forward locations to track down the terrorists engaging the troops, they said.

Kishwar operation underway

Security forces on Saturday continued operations in and around Chatroo forests in Kishwar and adjoining areas to hunt down terrorists hiding.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army paid tribute to its two soldiers who were killed during an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in Chatru on Friday.

“In a solemn wreath-laying ceremony, the Commanding General of the White Knights laid a wreath at the Jammu Air Force Station to pay tribute to the heroes Naib Subedar Vipan Kumar and Indian soldier Arvind Singh who sacrificed their lives in the service of the country during an encounter with terrorists in Kishwar,” the Indian Army said in an official statement.
