Communal violence broke out during Ganesh Visarjan in Mandya, Karnataka. The situation worsened so much that the rioters set fire to many shops and clothes showrooms as well as bike showrooms after pelting stones. Not only this, the uncontrolled mob also set fire to the bikes parked on the road. The police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.

Actually, the youth of Badrikoppalu village were taking out a procession for Ganesh Visarjan. The procession passed near a mosque on the main road of Nagamangala. It is being told that during this time stones were pelted on the procession. The situation worsened and clashes started between the two communities. When the police resorted to lathicharge, the angry people of the Hindu community demonstrated in front of the police station and demanded the arrest of those responsible. In protest against the incident, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have called for a bandh in Nagamangala today.

SP claims- situation is under control

After this incident, the statement of Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi has come out. SP says that when the Ganesh procession reached near the mosque, it took some time for the procession to move forward from there. On this, an argument started between the two communities. To disperse the crowd, the police started lathicharge. After the lathicharge, people reached in front of the police station and protested. People of other communities also gathered in large numbers and started pelting stones. They also set fire to some bikes and shops on the roadside.

‘Some people suffered minor injuries’

According to the SP, the situation is now under control. We have adequate police force. Fire engines are present on the spot. No one has suffered major injuries. Only a few people have suffered minor injuries. The police have declared a high alert in the area. Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (orders issued in urgent cases of nuisance or threatened danger) has been implemented to bring the situation under control.

HD Kumaraswamy condemned

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy strongly condemned an attack during Ganesh immersion in Nagamangala of Mandya district. He issued a statement saying that he strongly condemns the incident, which took place during Ganesh immersion in Nagamangala. The Union Minister said that the way a group deliberately targeted the devotees walking peacefully in the procession of Lord Ganapati, threw stones and slippers, burst petrol bombs and waved swords. This is a proof of the failure of peace and order in the city. He further said that when anti-social elements of that community harass peaceful protesters demanding security in front of the police station, the question arises as to which direction we are heading in. He also expressed serious concern over the failure of the local police.
