Apple has announced that it will expand language support for Apple Intelligence, a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features for iPhone and other devices. The new languages will be available to users next year. These include German and Italian, as well as two new versions of English (for different regions). While the AI suite has been available with the iOS 18 developer beta for some time, it was not bundled with the update that was publicly released on September 16.
The Apple Intelligence feature will arrive on iPhones and other devices next month with the iOS 18.1 update.
Apple Intelligence adds more languages
In a press release following the release of the iOS 18 update, Apple announced that its AI suite will be expanding in languages. Starting in 2025, it will be available in English (India), English (Singapore), German, Italian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and “other” languages.
Apple Intelligence initially launched in US English, and at the time, the iPhone maker revealed that it would also be localized in English for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. in December. It will also be available in Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish next year.
Despite the announcement of the expansion, the AI suite is not yet available on iPhones and other Apple devices. The Cupertino-based tech giant said the suite will be available next month with the iOS 18.1 update. However, only a few features will be available initially, such as writing tools, cleanup tools, and web page summaries. Other additions, such as Image Playground and AI-powered Siri, will be available later next year.
Apple Intelligence will also not be available to users of iPhones and other Apple devices in China and the European Union (EU), the company said.Except for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max launched last year, the entire iPhone 16 series is compatible with the AI suite.
