The Swimmer’s Cave is located in the Western Desert of Egypt. In fact, it is famous for the petroglyphs in the cave. This painting is the work of a swimmer of the time. There are many paintings here, but one in particular is of two people swimming.
The painting is believed to have been painted between six and nine thousand years ago. The Sahara at that time was a desert and an ocean. The weather is not dry. There’s more than just sand there. There are green plants there. The painting is actually located in a sandstone-filled cave on the Gilfkibo Plateau. The plateau extends from southwestern Egypt to southeastern Libya.
