Anand Pandit announces Trishul 2: Will Amitabh Bachchan reprise his iconic role?

October 10, 2024: On the eve of Amitabh Bachchan’s 82nd birthday, producer Anand Pandit reveals plans for the long-awaited sequel to the 1978 classic trident. Pandit has often spoken about how Bachchan’s character Vijay inspired him and he hopes to continue telling the story of the fearless construction tycoon. Trident 2.

“I’ve seen trident Nearly 60 times, it made a profound impact on me when it was first released,” Pandit shared. “The story of a man who came to the city with nothing and built an empire in the construction industry inspired me to move to Mumbai and chasing my dreams. ” The producer calls the project a tribute to Bachchan, who he believes shaped his personal and professional life.

TridentDirected by the late Yash Chopra and starring Sanjeev Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, Rakhi and Hema Malini, the film is considered a cinematic masterpiece. It tells the story of Vijay, an illegitimate son who tries to take revenge on his father by destroying him. In the sequel, Pandit plans to explore Vijay’s later life after he is accepted into the Gupta family. “It’s interesting to think about what happened after the events of the original film,” Pandit said. “Do Vijay and Geeta live happily ever after? Does his own family grow? Can he finally heal from his emotional trauma?”

While the project is still in its early stages and Pandit is yet to speak to Bachchan or the original writers, the story is ready. If the sequel materializes, it will mark Pandit’s fifth collaboration with Bachchan Saka 3 (2017), face (2021), Facts Mahirao Matt (2022), as well as the upcoming Facts Prusso Matt.

“This is more than just a professional project for me; it’s a heartfelt tribute to a superstar who means so much to me,” Pandit said. As for the director, he added, “I haven’t decided yet, but I would like to work with a young, fresh director on this project.”
