Some of the key faces vying for chief minister’s post in Maharashtra elections
The assembly election campaign in Maharashtra is now in its final phase. The state will go to polls on November 20 for 288 seats in the state. In this case, the event will stop 48 hours earlier, on the evening of November 18th. This election battle is mainly a battle between two alliances. On one side is the ruling party Mahayutthi, and on the other side is the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi. Leaders of both coalitions are doing their best to win over voters. The chief minister’s post is also in doubt in this election. Neither the face of the chief minister of Mahayuti nor Mahavikas Aghadi has released anyone’s name.
With the status of the chief minister’s name still unclear, both Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi are considering many claimants. Talking about Mahayuthy, three contenders are being considered for the post of chief minister. Almost the same situation exists on the part of Mahavikas Aghadi. Uddhav Thackeray is said to be already considering running for the chief minister’s post, but no one has revealed his name. Meanwhile, Nana Patole is the biggest face on the Congress side. The same situation has arisen in the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP. Supriya Sule’s name is under discussion in the Sharad group but has not been announced yet.
The reins are definitely in Sindhu’s hands, but there are plenty of contenders in the big leagues.
For now, the command of the government is definitely in the hands of Eknath Shinde, but among the contenders for the chief ministership are NCP leader Ajit Pawar and the BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is also in line. Fadnavis is seen praising Eknath Shinde from time to time but is yet to make any remarks on the chief minister’s post. Shinde is undoubtedly the chief minister, but there are doubts whether he will be able to retain his seat if Mahayoti wins this election. There are many reasons behind this.
BJP allies gain upper hand in seat-sharing
Talking about Mahayutti’s seat distribution, the BJP will contest a maximum of 149 seats, while the Shiv Sena of the Sindhi faction will contest 81 seats and the Ajit Pawar-led National Congress Party will contest 59 seats. The BJP appears to have the upper hand in terms of seat sharing. The BJP has more seats than the majority party. Devendra Fadnavis also served as chief minister of the BJP, although he served as deputy chief minister in the Shinde government. Therefore, his claim to the chief ministership cannot be denied. However, just two days before the polls, all leaders remained silent on the chief ministership.
Mahavikas Aghadi also had three contenders but all remained silent
The situation is similar with Mahavikas Aghadi. There are many contenders for the chief ministership here, but party leaders remain silent. There was also discussion about the female characters in Maha Vikas Aghadi. Sharad Pawar also said that he has no objection to becoming a female chief minister. After this, the discussion about Supriya Sule’s name started. Uddhav Thackeray’s name was also initially floated in the race for chief ministerial candidate. He has also been seen decorating the field on several occasions. In terms of the number of seats, all three parties are contesting with an almost equal number of seats.
Nana Patole is a big shot in Congress
On Mahavikas Aghadi, Congress also remained silent on the chief minister’s face. There is discussion in political circles that the party could put forward Nana Patole if a nomination is put forward, but for now all eyes are on the elections. In Maharashtra, Nana Patole is considered one of the senior and powerful leaders of the party. He also considered himself a big Maratha leader. In a sense, there are six chief ministerial contenders in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
