Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said peace cannot be established in West Bengal without stopping Bangladeshi infiltration across the border. Shah claimed that if his party comes to power in West Bengal in 2026, illegal immigration will be completely banned. The Home Minister made this statement while inaugurating a new passenger terminal and cargo port at the Petrapole land port on the Indo-Bangladesh border. He said these crossing points play an important role in ensuring peace and security at the border.
During this time, the Home Minister accused the current Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal of corruption and appealed to the people to bring about political change by 2026. He said these ports would play an important role in establishing peace in the state.
BJP will stop illegal infiltration
Home Minister Shah also emphasized that land ports will not only help improve connectivity and relations between India and Bangladesh but also strengthen trade relations between the two countries. He said: “Land ports play an important role in establishing peace in the region. When there is no proper legal means of movement of people across borders, illegal means are used, thereby affecting the peace of the country. He further said, I urge the people of Bangladesh to Bring about change in 2026. The BJP will stop infiltration and ensure peace in the state.”

Let us tell you that this port located in North 24 Parganas district is the largest land port in South Asia and an important gateway for trade and commerce between the two countries. The Petrapol-Benapole crossing point is one of the important border areas, through which about 70% of trade between the two countries occurs. It is also India’s eighth largest international immigration port, handling over 2.3 million passengers annually. With the opening of the new passenger terminal, infrastructure will be enhanced and immigration, customs and security services will be provided under one roof. In addition, the terminal will handle 20,000 passengers daily. He said the Maitri Dwar cargo gate is a joint facility agreed upon by both countries.
The Home Minister laid the foundation stone for the project on May 9 last year. In view of the daily traffic volume of about six to seven hundred trucks in this border area, the Indian Land Ports Authority has constructed a new cargo gate.
