Aman Sehrawat, Paris Olympics 2024: India’s young wrestler Aman Sehrawat missed out on creating history in Paris Olympics 2024. He had to face a crushing defeat of 10-0 in the semi-final match of men’s 57 kg freestyle category. Now Aman will compete for the bronze medal. If he had won the semi-finals, Aman would have ensured the silver medal.

Aman’s semi-final match on Thursday (8 August) was against top seed Rei Higuchi of Japan, in which he lost. However, before this, Aman had defeated Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania by technical superiority 12-0 in his quarter-final.

The semi-finals collapsed within 2 minutes

Asian Championship gold medalist and the country’s only male wrestler to qualify for the Olympics, Aman had an easy win over Abakarov in the quarter-finals. But in the semi-finals, he lost to the Japanese wrestler in just 2 minutes and 14 seconds. However, he still has a chance to win bronze.

Lost parents in childhood

21 year old Aman Sehrawat’s journey to the Olympics has not been easy at all. Aman, who comes from a Jat family, comes from Birohar in Jhajjar district of Haryana. He lost his parents at the age of 11. Earlier, Aman’s mother died of a heart attack when he was 10 years old. Then after about a year his father also passed away.

After this, Aman and his younger sister Pooja Sehrawat were left in the care of their elder uncle Sudhir Sehrawat and an aunt. After the tragic death of his parents, Aman was suffering from severe depression, so his grandfather Mangeram Sehrawat took care of him and played an important role in his recovery.

Aman’s journey in wrestling has been like this

Amidst all this, he continued his passion for wrestling and started training under coach Lalit Kumar. Aman came into limelight in 2021 by winning his first national championship title. Aman won the bronze medal in the 57 kg category in the 2022 Asian Games.

Then won the gold medal in the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championship. In January 2024, he brought glory to the country by winning the gold medal in the Zagreb Open Wrestling Tournament. He was the only male wrestler from India to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
