Aman became the seventh Indian wrestler to win a medal in the Olympics. Aman’s nose was injured during the bronze medal match, despite this he remained steadfast. After winning this bronze medal match, Aman said that his weight had increased. The wrestler said he jogged in the gym at night. Went outside the wrestling arena, wore a windcheater jacket and did all this for 2-3 hours. Due to which weight was lost.
Actually, Aman’s weight was 61.5 kg after losing to champion Rei Higuchi in the semi-finals on Thursday. In such a situation, it was a challenge for Aman to reduce it before going on the wrestling mat for the bronze match.
To qualify for the 57 kg competition, Aman had to lose 4.5 kg in the stipulated time of 10 hours before the mandatory weighing on the second day. After this, when Aman got on the weighing machine the next day, he along with coaches Jagmandar Singh and Virendra Dahiya completed their mission.
Aman reduced his weight by 4.6 kg to 56.9 kg and brought it closer to his weight category i.e. ’57 KG Olympic Free Style Wrestling’. Keep in mind that Vinesh Phogat’s weight was found to be 100 grams more before the final of 50 kg freestyle wrestling, due to which she was disqualified.

This is how Aman Sehrawat lost weight
On Thursday, Aman went into weight loss mode after losing his semi-final match against Rei Higuchi of Japan at 6:30 pm. The ‘Mission’ started with a one-and-a-half hour mat session, in which two senior coaches made them do standing wrestling, followed by an hour-long hot bath session. At 12:30 they went to the gym, where Aman ran on the treadmill non-stop for an hour.
Sweating helped in losing weight. After this they were given a break of 30 minutes, after which there were five sessions of sauna bath of 5 minutes each. By the end of the last session, Aman’s weight was still 900 grams more. Then he was given a massage, after which he was asked to go jogging. This was followed by five 15-minute running sessions. Till 4:30 am, Aman’s weight was 56.9 kg, i.e. 100 grams less. After this the coach and the wrestler heaved a sigh of relief.
Coach measured Aman Sehrawat’s weight every hour
Meanwhile, during the training season, Aman was given lukewarm water with lemon and honey and some coffee to drink. After this Aman could not sleep. Aman said- I watched videos of wrestling matches the whole night. Coach Dahiya said, ‘We kept checking his weight every hour. We did not sleep the whole night, not even during the day.’
Dahiya said – Losing weight is a normal thing for us, but because of what happened last day (with Vinesh), there was pressure, a lot of pressure. We could not lose another medal. All the hard work paid off when Aman defeated Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico on Friday to win the bronze medal and become India’s youngest Olympic medalist.
