The security fleet of the Indian Air Force will be further increased. The Defense Ministry has signed an agreement worth Rs 13,500 crore with major government company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to purchase 12 Sukhoi jets. The Defense Ministry said Thursday that 62.6 percent of the aircraft will be made of domestically produced materials. The Indian Air Force is purchasing Russian-made Su-30MKI jets. These jets are currently being manufactured by HAL under an inter-governmental framework.
The ministry said on social media platforms that the aircraft will have 62.6% domestic content and major components will be manufactured by the Indian defense industry. “This is yet another milestone in India’s journey to self-reliance, which will enhance the capabilities of our armed forces,” the statement said.
The country’s defense preparedness will be strengthened
In furtherance of the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defense and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) today signed a contract for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI aircraft and related equipment, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Defense. Its estimated cost is Rs 13,500 crore, including taxes and duties.
The aircraft will have 62.6 per cent indigenous content, which has increased due to indigenization of many components manufactured by the Indian defense industry, the release said. The aircraft will be manufactured at HAL’s Nashik unit. The supply of these aircraft will enhance the combat capabilities of the Indian Air Force and enhance the country’s defense preparedness.
Approved by the Ministry of Defense on September 15
On September 15, the Ministry of Defense also approved the purchase of 12 Su-30 MKI aircraft to further ensure airspace security. It is said that all procurement will be done from Indian suppliers under the Buy Indian Design, Develop and Manufacturing (IDMM)/Buy (India) category, thus contributing to India’s defense objective of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The industry will be greatly improved.
