Ajoy Kuai’s story
In ancient times, there lived a moneylender’s wife in a village. He has seven sons. Once, a few days before Diwali, the moneylender’s wife went to the forest to collect dirt to decorate her house. While digging, a young porcupine was accidentally killed by his shovel. The moneylender’s wife regretted the incident very much. But she returned home.
After that incident, his seven sons gradually died one by one. The moneylender and his wife were very sad. One day the moneylender’s wife asked a priest the cause of her pain. Pandit told him that Shah’s sons had been dying since the day Shah’s children died. Pandit advised him to observe the Ahoi Mata fast on Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik and repent sincerely.
The moneylender’s wife observed fast and worshiped Ajoy Mata on Pandit’s advice. Mother Ahoy was satisfied with his devotion and worship and gave life to all his sons. Since then, it has been believed that women who observe the Ahoy Mata fast and worship devoutly on this day will have long life and prosperity for their children.
