AHMEDABAD: A petty dispute over hand contact during a wedding dance led to the brutal murder of 20-year-old Mahendra Solanki in the Kagdapith area of the city. Police arrested four suspects on Wednesday in connection with the killing.
The father of the deceased, Bhikha Solanki, filed a complaint against four individuals on Tuesday night. According to the police, the murder was triggered by a minor altercation at a wedding event.
Kagdapith police station inspector SA Gohil said, “The accused — Bharat Rathod, Amit Sindhav, Jayesh Rathod, and Jignesh Sindhav, allegedly attacked Mahendra with a sharp-edged weapon. On Wednesday, during a joint operation by Kagdapith police’s surveillance squad and the local crime branch Zone-6, all suspects involved in the murder were nabbed.”
According to Bhikha’s complaint, Mahendra was playing the drum at the wedding procession on Tuesday night. Around 10.30 pm, while performing on the road, he accidentally touched Jignesh and Amit, who were dancing. This seemingly minor contact sparked a heated argument. The two accused became aggressive, verbally abusing Mahendra in front of the wedding guests.
Tensions escalated as Bharat and Jayesh joined the confrontation. The four accused attacked both Bhikha and Mahendra, turning the dispute violent. During the assault, the accused stabbed Mahendra multiple times with a knife, inflicting severe injuries on his chest, back, neck, and face.
Onlookers rushed to help, and Mahendra was immediately taken to LG Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to ensure strict action against the perpetrators. The case highlights how a trivial disagreement turned into a fatal act of violence.
