The ball-tampering scandal that occurred in 2018 is like an infamous stain on David Warner’s cricketing career. During the 2018 tour of South Africa, the Australian team committed a disgraceful act that brought shame to the entire cricketing world. Ball tampering was committed by David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft. Their actions were caught on camera and all three players were later banned. Smith and Warner were banned for a year each, while Bancroft was banned from playing cricket for nine months. In addition to this, David Warner was banned from captaincy for life. However, six years after the ball-tampering incident, Cricket Australia gave Warner a sigh of relief and decided to lift his lifetime captaincy ban.
David Warner has a big responsibility
Now that the ban has been lifted, there’s another big news about David Warner. In fact, David Warner has been named captain. Warner has been appointed as the manager of the Sydney Thunder for the 14th season of the Big Bash League. Warner will replace Chris Green at Sydney Thunder. However, Green remains a part of the team as a player. The decision comes after the ban on Warner was lifted days ago. David Warner himself also shared the news of his captaincy with fans.
Sydney Thunder will be hoping Warner’s captain can lead them to success as they finished bottom of the table last season. The Big Bash League i.e. BBL 14 will start on December 15. The Thunder’s first game will be against the Adelaide Strikers in Canberra on December 17.
Sydney Thunder’s lineup for Big Bash League (BBL) Season 14: David Warner (captain), Wes Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Sam Billings, Oliver Davies, Rocky Ferguson, Matt Gilkes, Chris Green, Liam Hatcher, Sam Konstass, Nick Madinson, Nathan McAndrew, Sherfin Rutherford, William Saltzman, Daniel Sam Si, Jason Sangha, Tanveer Sangha.
