While attacking the Modi government and RSS in America, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said something that may cost him dearly. What he said on reservation in India while addressing the students at Georgetown University is being interpreted to mean that Congress has some plan to end reservation somewhere. However, Rahul Gandhi is saying that he did not mean it at all. But he has been attacking BJP on similar issues about which BJP has been saying that this is not their intention at all. Just as Rahul Gandhi had linked PM Narendra Modi’s target of 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections to changing the Constitution, now parties like BJP and BSP are doing the same thing with Congress. While addressing the American students, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party will think about ending reservation in India only when the discrimination in terms of reservation will end in India, however, such is not the situation right now.

1- Where is Rahul Gandhi getting the caste data from?

These days Rahul Gandhi is harping on caste day and night. Sometimes he talks about caste census, sometimes he talks about castes’ participation in politics, business, media. The limit was crossed when he started asking the caste of Miss India contestants. Rahul Gandhi, who asks journalists about their caste in his press conferences every day, is not leaving his caste phobia even in America. In America too, caste and religion remained the center of his conversation. It is not understood from where he presents the figures in this regard. At one place he says that the number of backward Dalits etc. in India is 73 percent. When caste census has not been done in the country, then who gave him these figures. The UPA government had also done a caste census under pressure from allies, but the government did not make it public. There is a Congress government in Karnataka too, but caste census has been done there, but that too is not being made public.

On the basis of what data do they say in America that tribals get Rs 10 out of Rs 100, Dalits get Rs 5 out of Rs 100 and OBCs also get almost the same amount. Rahul further says that the reality is that they are not getting participation. Look at the list of every business leader of India. Show me the name of a tribal, a Dalit. Show me the name of an OBC. I think one of the top 200 is an OBC. They are 50 percent of India, but we are not treating this disease. Now, reservation is not the only means. There are other means too.

Rahul Gandhi should definitely tell whether all these figures are the product of Rahul Gandhi’s imagination or a survey. Speaking in a university in America is different from speaking in an election ground in India. When the leader of the opposition of the country says something, the media of the whole world gives importance to it. Rahul Gandhi is either trying to take wrong advantage of this or he is so naive that he does not know what he is saying?

2-What Rahul Gandhi said is deeply embedded in the conscience of the Congress

Perhaps this is the reason why BSP chief Mayawati got the opportunity to say that Rahul Gandhi is bent upon ending reservation. She said that Congress has been conspiring to end the reservation of SC, ST and OBC for a long time. Former UP Chief Minister Mayawati said that people should be cautious of this drama of Rahul Gandhi. Mayawati said that Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar resigned from the post of Law Minister because of the Congress party. She said that until casteism is completely eradicated, the constitutional system of reservation should continue.

Famous journalist Dilip Mandal writes on his x handle that the souls of Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi have entered Rahul Gandhi. Both were staunch opponents of reservation. Jawaharlal Nehru had written a letter to the Chief Ministers opposing reservation. Rajiv Gandhi, on the other hand, gave the longest speech of his life against the Mandal Commission on 8 August 1990. BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, Rahul Gandhi, who claims to save the Constitution, has said that when the situation demands, he will abolish reservation. Rahul Gandhi’s bias towards reservation has been seen in abundance in America. His statements were not wrong.

3- Has Congress fallen into the trap it created itself?

Rahul Gandhi’s statement on reservation in America is sure to cause loss to Congress. Perhaps this is the reason why Congress is in a damage control mood today. What the Congress party has written on its X handle quoting Rahul Gandhi is a kind of clarification from his side on this issue. He said that yesterday someone misrepresented my statement that I am against reservation.
But let me make it clear – I am not against reservation. We will take reservation beyond the limit of 50%.

Actually, the way Congress gave the slogan of Save Constitution, Save Reservation during the Lok Sabha elections and spread the illusion among the common people that if BJP comes to power, it will abolish reservation. The ghost of abolition of reservation which was created by Congress is now ready to swallow Congress itself.
