Parade on January 26th.
Many states will participate in duty parades on the occasion of Republic Day 2025. This time, even the scene in Delhi was not among them. But after 8 years, images of Bihar will appear in this parade. Chhath Puja scenes and aquatic greenery will be showcased in the procession in Bihar. Apart from Bihar, it also includes scenes from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and many other states.
Tables from 15 states and union territories, including West Bengal, Punjab and Karnataka, have been selected for the Republic Day parade. But Delhi’s idea was again rejected. This also sparked new controversy. An expert committee constituted by the Ministry of Defense did not approve Delhi’s proposal as they felt that the guidelines laid down for the selection were not followed.
Delhi government expresses dissatisfaction
The Delhi government expressed deep dissatisfaction with the decision and considered it an important political issue in the upcoming assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) called the decision biased and claimed that footage from Delhi was deliberately rejected. Party leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have lodged strong protests over this.
Protests took place in various states
This is not the first time that Delhi’s proposal has been rejected. Last year, scenes in Delhi, Punjab, West Bengal and Karnataka were also not included in Republic Day parades, leading to protests in those states. The states have leveled numerous accusations that the decision was a political conspiracy.
Questions to ask about the selection process
To maintain transparency in the selection process, all states were tested according to the same criteria, the defense expert committee said. However, opposition parties and affected states said the decision may have been made from an electoral perspective, with some state plans being rejected for political reasons. Currently, it is believed that the political climate over this decision is likely to heat up, especially with the Delhi assembly elections approaching.
