AFG vs ZIM: 2024 is going to be a great year for the Afghanistan cricket team. In this year’s T20 World Cup, the team has reached the semi-finals and successfully defeated South Africa in the limited-overs format for the first time. Recently, Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in the T20I series and won the second match of the ODI series to take a 1-0 lead. Earlier, the first ODI of the series was washed away due to rain. However, in the second game, Afghanistan performed well and defeated the host Zimbabwe, making history.
Zimbabwe’s disgraceful results
In fact, the second ODI match between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan was played at the Harare Sports Club ground. In this game, hosts Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved costly for the team. Afghanistan, who batted first, lost 6 wickets in 50 overs thanks to the excellent batting of young openers Seediqullah Attal, 23, and Abdul Malik, 26. Afterwards, 286 points were scored on the scoreboard. Sediqullah Atal scored an innings of 104 runs with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes. While Abdul Malik scored 84 points.
Facing this scoreline against Afghanistan, Zimbabwe’s batting collapsed like a house of cards. Zimbabwe could not play even half of the overs, scoring just 54 points in just 17.5 overs of the 50-over match. Only two Zimbabwean batsmen have reached double figures in touches. In this way, Afghanistan won the match by 232 runs, setting a great record. This was Afghanistan’s biggest victory in ODIs.
