Superintendent of Medical College removed from post

After this horrifying incident, the Health Department has ordered the removal of Dr. Sanjay Vashishtha, Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College. He was in charge there for a long time. In his place, hospital dean Bulbul Mukhopadhyay has been given the responsibility. There was a demand for the removal of the superintendent ever since the body of the lady doctor was recovered on Friday. But after 48 hours the health department issued an order to remove him.

Accused sent to police custody for 14 days

Kolkata Police arrested one accused Sanjay Roy on Saturday. He was produced in the court, where he was sent to 14-day police custody. The accused will now remain in police custody till August 23, where he will be interrogated about this case. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of BNS. Police were able to reach him through a Bluetooth earbud.

Demand for death penalty for the arrested accused

After the arrest of the accused, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded death penalty. She said that if the victim’s family demands a CBI inquiry, she will support it. They have no objection to this. He said, “If they do not trust the West Bengal government, they can approach any investigating agency. We have no objection. Instructions have been given to take the case to a fast track court.”

West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose has asked the state government to take immediate action in this matter and submit a report. He has also said that he will take up this matter with the Government of India. The body of the lady doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College in North Kolkata on Friday. Preliminary post-mortem reports have indicated that the lady doctor was sexually assaulted before she was brutally murdered.

Police will ensure maximum punishment to the accused

According to Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, the accused has been charged with rape and murder on the basis of circumstantial evidence and the testimony of doctors present during night duty. He said, “This is a heinous crime. The arrested person is involved in it on the basis of circumstantial evidence, including the statements of other doctors present during the night duty. The police will ensure that the accused gets maximum punishment.”

IMA’s ultimatum, warning of nationwide demonstration
