The Lieutenant Governor has taken major action against the Rs 200-crore scam allegedly carried out by PWD engineers at a Delhi government hospital. Approval has been granted for prosecution under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will investigate the matter. He has been given permission to conduct an inquiry against five engineers of the PWD.
According to sources in the LG office, a Rs 200-crore scam was carried out by the public sector among various departments of the Delhi government. In this case, major action was taken against 2 assistant engineers and 3 junior engineers. In the case, an FIR was registered against AE Subhash Chandra Das, AE Subhash Chand, JE Abhinav, JE Raghuraj Solanki and JE Rajesh Aggarwal.
The government treasury estimates a loss of Rs 2 billion
The scam was linked to Delhi hospital work. The government exchequer is estimated to have lost Rs 2 billion due to corruption in government hospitals. It is alleged that five engineers of PWD helped different companies to place favorable bids in the name of emergency projects in various hospitals of the Delhi government.
Forged signatures and manipulation of spot quotations
Investigations so far have revealed that these public sector officials made payments to companies/contractors based on false bills. PWD officials forged signatures and manipulated spot quotes to benefit their chosen contractors/companies. This resulted in a loss of approximately Rs 2 billion to the government exchequer.
