“Abuse of power by the Chairman of the House of Federation”, Mallikarjun Kharge shared 10 points

The opposition has moved a motion of no confidence against the Chairman of the House of Federation and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The opposition accused Jagdeep Dhankar of bias. Meanwhile, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge shared a post on X. In this article, he narrates how Jagdeep Dhankhar, Chairman of the Lok Sabha, abused his power and showed favoritism. For this, Mallikarjun Kharge also shared 10 points. Mallikarjun Kharge writes: “Democracy always runs on two wheels.” One wheel is the ruling party and the other is the opposition party. Both are needed. The country only hears from its members when the House of Representatives is in session.

Mallikarjun Khage shared 10 points

  • Members have full rights to express their opinions in Parliament. But the chairman kept interrupting the opposition and did not give them a chance to fully express their opinions. They demand confirmation from the opposition parties for no reason, while allowing members of the ruling party, ministers and the prime minister to say whatever they want. Let them tell any lies, spread any fake news on the House floor, and we will never stop them. But opposition members have also been asked to verify the veracity of media reports. If they don’t, they threaten to take action against them.

  • The chairman has repeatedly abused his power and suspended members in batches. Some commissioners continued to be suspended after the meeting, in violation of rules and tradition.
  • The Chairman has repeatedly criticized opposition leaders even outside the House. He often repeated the PPP’s arguments and made political comments about the opposition. He teaches senior MPs every day like a schoolboy; his behavior shows no sense of parliamentary dignity or respect for others. He abused his power and after taking office, he praised his political thinker, the RSS, and even said, “I am also the Eklaviya of the RSS”, which violated the spirit of the constitution.
  • The Speaker was seen to be overly flattering to the government both inside and outside the House. Equating the Prime Minister with Mahatma Gandhi or arguing that the Prime Minister’s demands for accountability are misguided, we have seen it all. We will also comment if the opposition walks out, which is part of parliamentary tradition.
  • The speaker arbitrarily deleted some remarks made by opposition members. Even leaders ordered the arbitrary and malicious deletion of important parts of opposition speeches. And even the most objectionable remarks by members of the ruling party are allowed to remain on the record.
  • The Chairman never allowed any discussion under Rule 267. Opposition members were not even allowed to read the notice. However, in the past three days, members of the ruling party have been named and issued notices under Rule 267.
  • Parliament TV’s coverage of the president’s tenure was completely one-sided. Most of the time, only the chairman and personnel of the ruling party show up. Block any movement by the opposition. The camera stays on the chair for long periods of time as the opposition leader speaks. Sansad TV’s broadcast rules have been arbitrarily changed. Changes are made without a meeting of the General Purpose Committee (GPC).
  • Short discussions and attention-getting are now rarely used. During UPA, there were two calls for attention and one short discussion per week. It won’t happen now. The half-hour question was not even a statutory resolution. Not all bills are also sent to the Standing Committee. Even issues of public importance are not discussed.
  • Many of the decisions taken by the Chairman are completely arbitrary. No one was consulted whether it was moving the statue or changing the guarding and guarding system. No Code Committee meeting was held. There was no GPC meeting and now there is no Rules Committee meeting.
  • Opposition members are no longer allowed to ask questions about ministerial statements. There was a tradition of clarifying statements in the Bundestag, but this has also been discontinued.
