Due to heavy rains in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, the historical heritage of the area was razed to the ground. In fact, due to the rains, the ‘Chakki Ka Pat’ and the ‘Ancient Fort Wall’ located in the main market of the city suddenly collapsed. As soon as it fell, the millstones broke and the debris from the fort wall scattered on the road.

The ‘Chakki Ka Pat’ is said to be from the reign of Prithviraj Chauhan (1177-1192). It was carried out under the supervision of the Archaeology Department. On learning about this and the collapse of the wall, the SDM, municipal administration and police rushed to the spot in the midnight rain. The administration took over the broken ‘mill stone’ and cleared the debris of the ‘fort wall’ from the road.

According to reports, the Sambhal region has been experiencing continuous rain since Wednesday afternoon. Due to this, the historical heritage “Chakki Ka Pat” and “Fort Wall” located on Dhaka Road, the main market in Sadar Kotwali area, collapsed at night. As the debris of the fort wall spread on the road, the millstone was also broken into two pieces.

It is believed that this historic ‘Chakki ka Paat’ of Sambhar was hung on the fort wall by his warrior Alha-Udal during the reign of Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan to show his bravery. Since then, this ‘millstone’ weighing several kilograms has been hung on the wall of the ancient fort. People come from far and wide to see it.

On the other hand, after receiving the news of the incident, people from the surrounding areas gathered at the spot in heavy rain. SDM Vinay Mishra, Municipal Administrator and Kotwali Police arrived at the spot. SDM obtained information about the accident from people. Later, the police team took out the “millstone” buried under the ruins of the city wall. However, one side of the “millstone” was damaged at this time, and the government took over the millstone.

Currently, DM Dr. Rajendra Paunsia has directed to repair this historic ‘mill stone’ and restore its old look. Meanwhile, SDM Vinay Mishra said that the road was blocked due to debris, so the debris was first cleared. Now our effort is to preserve the remaining part of ‘Chakki ke Pat’. We will try to restore its old look.
