Abhishek Banerjee’s post

Abhishek Banerjee wrote, ‘For the last 10 days, when the whole country is protesting against the #RGKarMedicalcollege incident and demanding justice, when people were protesting on the streets against this horrific crime, at the same time 900 rape incidents have taken place in different parts of India. Sadly, a permanent solution is still not discussed to a large extent.’

Abhishek Banerjee further wrote, citing statistics, ’90 rape incidents are being reported every day, 4 every hour and 1 every 15 minutes. There is an urgent need to take decisive action. We need strong laws in which trial and conviction should take place within 50 days and then give the harshest punishment. Nothing will happen with empty promises.’

Advice given to the government

Advising the state governments, he said, ‘State governments should take action and put immediate pressure on the Centre to make a stringent anti-rape law. A law should be made which ensures quick and strict justice. Anything less than this will be merely symbolic and sadly ineffective. Wake up India!’
