AAP govt takes action against pollution in Delhi…Minister Gopal Rai takes lead

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai

The government is concerned about the rising air pollution in Delhi and is taking different approaches to reduce it. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai launched the drive on Tuesday by distributing electric heaters to night shift security guards under the Delhi Secretariat’s winter action plan.

Gopal Rai said that if we look at the pollution levels in Delhi and across North India compared to previous years, Delhi’s AQI crossed 400 between November 1 and 15. Many times it even exceeds this range. But so far this year, Delhi’s AQI has not entered critical status.

Delhi implements winter action plan

In order to deal with winter air pollution problems, the government announced a 21-point winter action plan on September 25. On this basis, relevant departments are working hard to implement it. The government is conducting many activities to reduce pollution such as anti-dust campaigns, spraying of biodegradants, tree planting campaigns and awareness campaigns. The government has started using more than 200 mobile anti-smog guns to spray water on roads across Delhi.

anti-open burning movement

Gopal Rai said that open burning in winter will also increase pollution, so the government launched a one-month anti-open burning campaign in Delhi from November 6. These teams will work around the clock to monitor and prevent open burning incidents in Delhi. Government departments, RWAs, construction agencies have been instructed to distribute electric heaters to security personnel. Thereby reducing open burning of biomass and solid waste.

Due to government efforts to reduce pollution

Gopal Rai said Delhi’s AQI index has not entered the severe category so far this year. There are three main reasons why Delhi’s AQI is still outside the severe level. First, the long-term and continuous efforts of the Delhi government.

The Second Winter Action Plan immediately took measures such as controlling dust pollution, controlling vehicle pollution, stopping biomass burning, and reducing straw burning incidents this year compared to previous years. reduce.

At the same time, the temperature this year has not dropped much compared with previous years, and due to intermittent increases in wind speed, pollution levels have not reached serious levels.
