An incident of serious abuse and violence occurred against a 20-year-old tribal girl in the Bangor Munda police station area of ​​Kantabanj in Bolangir district of Odisha. On November 16, a tribal girl from Jurabande village was attacked by Abhay Bagha from the village when she was returning home after taking a bath in the village pond. The girl alleged that Abhay not only molested her but also abused her and made objectionable comments about her caste.
Trying to force feed dirt
The girl said the accused hit her in the chest, causing her to fall. When her elderly mother Champa Mirdha came to her rescue, the accused tried to strangle her and tortured her. The defendant then smeared soil on the girl’s face with his hands and tried to force-feed her.
The suspect absconded and the police searched for him
The girl has lodged a written complaint regarding the matter with Bangor Munda police station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under 288/24. Kantabanji SDPO Gaurang Charan Sahu said a complaint has been lodged on behalf of the victim. The accused is absconding but efforts are on to nab him.
Tribal groups demand justice
Following the incident, local tribal groups demanded justice. Members of tribal welfare associations demanded strict action against the culprits. They warned that if the government did not take immediate action, they would be forced to agitate.
Local social worker Ajit Joshi condemned the incident and said such behavior was reprehensible. He demanded that the district government immediately arrest the suspects and punish them severely.
