Kyiv: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s top military commander said fighting around the main city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine has become more serious following Russia’s ongoing incursions. Analysts estimate that Russian troops are currently only a few kilometers away from the city. Ukraine’s General Staff said in a battlefield report on Thursday that Ukrainian troops repelled about 40 Russian attempts to attack security forces around Pokrovsk in the past 24 hours.
What did the Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Army say?
“Russian occupation forces are advancing all available forces and trying to break through the defenses of our troops,” Ukrainian Army Chief of Staff Gen. Alexander Silsky said in a Facebook post late Wednesday. He said his troops were smaller in number. Russian troops are trying to destroy Ukraine’s defenses with glide bombs.

Let us tell you that before the Russian attack in February 2022, the population of Pokrovsk was approximately 60,000. It is considered Ukraine’s main defense stronghold. A Russian occupation here would weaken Ukraine’s defense capabilities. A major concern for the Kiev government is that billions of dollars in military aid to deter Russia could end after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office. (Associated Press)
