British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is being accused of violating parliamentary rules because of his wife Victoria. Due to this, he is facing criticism and there is a demand for investigation against him.

According to the Sunday Times, Prime Minister Starmer is facing an investigation for failing to disclose that major Labour Party donor Waheed Ally paid for a personal shopper, clothes and other items for his wife.

In fact, a businessman and donor to the Labor Party had bought expensive clothes for his wife Victoria, about which PM Starmer did not inform. The gifts given to Victoria Starmer by major Labor donor Lord Ely were not recorded by PM Starmer in the register that gives information about gifts given to MPs.

In Britain, information about gifts has to be given within 28 days

In Britain, MPs must disclose gifts and donations within 28 days of receiving them. The British Parliament’s Guide to the Rules states that MPs “must disclose any benefit given to a third party, whether or not it is linked to any benefit to them. If a member is aware of the benefit and it is a result of their membership of the House or parliamentary or political activities, they must disclose it.”

Under the House of Commons Code of Conduct, members of Parliament are required to provide information about financial interests that are seen as influencing their work. A Conservative Party spokesman has called for a full investigation into what he called “an obvious serious breach of parliamentary rules”.

Eli gave many gifts

The Prime Minister’s registered financial interests listed on the Parliament website show that he has received several gifts from Lord Eli, including several pairs of spectacles, clothes and accommodation. The Sunday Times said that those gifts were declared, but the clothes given to his wife were not. Recently, the Prime Minister declared the fact that Lord Eli had provided him with accommodation for several weeks, which is said to be worth more than 20,000 British pounds (more than Rs 22 lakh).

A spokesman for 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister, said in a statement sent to Reuters that Starmer and his team had sought advice from officials about this and believed they had followed the rules. The spokesman said, “However, following further inquiries this month, we have declared further things.”

Who is Eli
Eli is a British media entrepreneur and former chairman of online fashion retailer ASOS (ASOS.L). In August this year, it was revealed that Lord Eli had been given a temporary Downing Street security pass despite having no formal government role.

Lord Ely was knighted by Tony Blair in 1998 and has recently led fundraising campaigns for the Labour Party.
