A lineman from the Electricity Bureau raped a girl. The victim told her mother about the incident and the defendant was arrested.

Police on Sunday arrested a 20-year-old youth for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district. Police said the accused lured the girl and raped her on Saturday night. Further action is being taken on this matter.

SHO Nagendra Kumar Nagar said a woman living in a village in Kabrai police station area had lodged a complaint in this regard. She said she slept in the same room as her son on Saturday night. When she woke up around 2 a.m., her 16-year-old daughter was not home. The woman said she searched for her daughter all night but could not find her.

The victim told her mother what happened.

On Sunday morning, the girl returned home scared and told her mother that she had been raped by a man named Arjun Kushwaha. The woman then contacted police. Citing the complaint, the SHO said rape charges have been filed against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The defendant will appear in court on Monday

The SHO further said that the victim told the police that the accused Kushwaha worked as a lineman in the electricity department and he often came to her village to repair electric wires. Because of this, he got to know her. Meanwhile, the victim’s medical examination was completed and Kushwaha was arrested from his village on Sunday evening. He will appear in court on Monday.
