A new incident of Rs 50 crore robbery through fake orders on Myntra has come to light. This big scam with sister e-commerce company Flipkart was done between March and June. The company lodged a Rs 11-crore fraud complaint in Bengaluru. According to reports, the company was defrauded to the tune of Rs 50 crore. Scammers took advantage of the refund system of the e-commerce platform to carry out such a huge fraud through fake orders.
There is a loophole in the refund system
According to reports, scammers took advantage of loopholes in the company’s refund system to order expensive jewelry, branded clothing, shoes, cosmetics, etc. from the e-commerce platform. After the order is delivered, the scammer will file a false complaint with the company’s customer service, underreporting the quantity of product received or stating that the wrong product was delivered. After asking the company for a refund, the company was deceived.
In short, scammers take advantage of company policies. For example, if someone orders 10 products, and after the order is delivered, the company’s customer service informs them that only 5 products were received, and therefore seeks a refund from the company for the remaining 5 products. In this way, scammers can get any product of Myntra for free.
The police have been involved in the investigation
Complaint option related to any product is available in the Myntra app where users can complain about missing items, wrong products and quality. According to the complaint filed in Bengaluru, hackers placed 5,500 fake orders in Bengaluru alone. The Myntra scam is said to be carried out by scammers based in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. The company suspected fake orders and lodged a complaint with Bengaluru police. The matter is currently under investigation.
Flipkart imposes cancellation fee
Walmart, the parent company of Myntra, has decided to revise its cancellation policy. This may affect Flipkart, the country’s largest e-commerce platform. Nowadays, the cost for users to order goods from e-commerce platforms can be very high. However, the company has not yet made an official announcement in this regard.
