In Bihar’s Nawada district, bullies set fire to a Dalit colony over a land dispute. Villagers said that about 80 houses were burnt to ashes in the fire. However, the police said that only 20 houses were burned in the fire and no one died in the incident. The police also arrested 10 accused in the case. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has cornered the Nitish government on this issue.

The incident took place at Krishna Nagar Dalit colony near Nanaura in Mufassil police station area in Nawada. There was a dispute between the two parties over land. Due to this, the bullies beat up the Dalit family and then set their house on fire after firing in the air on Wednesday night.

Land tenure issue causes uproar

It is understood that part of the land in the village is currently occupied by a Dalit family. There is a dispute with the other party over the possession of the land. The hearing of the case is being conducted by senior officials. The victim’s family said that the bullies suddenly attacked on Wednesday night. As the fight went on, their house was also burned. After receiving the information about the fire, the fire brigade has been dispatched.

What did Nawada SP say?

SP Abhinav Dhiman said, “Around 7 o’clock, information was received that houses were burnt by some people. Initially, it was said that 40 to 50 houses were burnt, but so far, we have not ascertained the civil aspect and we have identified around 21 families in the darkness, but the number of people identified so far is 21. Apart from this, no one has died in the incident. The information has not come to light and there is no news. Someone’s body has been found.”

Police reject open-air shooting

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police denied that there was an aerial firing here. He said: “It is alleged that there was an aerial firing or something happened here. We have not found the shells yet, but our team is investigating and camping here.”

The SP said that we have arrested the person who is said to be the main accused in the incident. Apart from the main accused, we have arrested 10 persons and will ensure arrest of all those involved in the case. The police force will continue to be deployed here until the situation returns to normalcy.

Tejashwi tells Mahajangalraj, Mahadanavaraj

Former Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav made a statement on the Nawada incident. Tejashwi compared the incident with Maha Jungleraj, Maha Danavaraj, Maha Rakshasraj. He wrote on the social media platform that poor people were burnt to death – atrocities against Dalits cannot be tolerated.
